It’s spooky season! October is one of my favourite times of year. I love the changing of the leaves to brilliant reds, yellows and orange, and the crisp scent that fills the autumn air. It’s a great time to break out the warm soups, and apple cider sprinkled with cinnamon and clove. There’s a delicious Thanksgiving meal (or two) to be had, and not long after we get to celebrate all things scary.
For this month’s reading, I kept the spooky theme and used the Ghost Tarot. If you’re into ghosts, this is a deck worth picking up as there’s truly a tale to be found in each and every card. Paired with the Ghost Tarot, I decided to pull an additional card from the Halloween Oracle.

Don’t forget, if you’re looking for a tarot reading I have recently updated my services. So whether you’d like a one-on-one live session, an audio file sent to your email, or a PDF to read over and over, there’s something there for you.
Pair One - Magician & King of Wands Rx
The Magician knows who he is, and what he wants. He thoroughly understands his skills and talents, and knows what resources as at his disposal. With the Magician at the helm, this is a great month to start or continuing building the life you truly want. Have trust and faith in yourself and what you bring to the table.
As long as you’re utilizing what is available to you to the best of your ability, you’ll likely find things go quite smoothly this month. Obstacles seem surmountable, and ideas are taking form. Stay true to your goal and maintain balance.
The King of Wands in the reversed position comes as a warning: don’t allow the power of the Magician to go to your head. When things are going well and finally coming together, it can be easy to give into foolishness and pride. The challenge has subsided, and we are lulled into a false sense of security, thus making impulsive decisions and failing to see where the load ahead leads.
It’s great to tap into your passion, as the King of Wands would do, but make sure you still have a handle on the situation at hand. The Magician brings in that element of being in control, but you may find your desires taking the lead. Maintain a steady hand. Be responsible, and accountable for your actions. Aim to inspire, not domineer.
As a final message, we have the Owl from the Halloween Oracle, which reads “wise seeing, wise action“. Think before acting, despite the impulses in the King of Wands reversed which encourage you to do otherwise. Remember, you have resources at your disposal – there’s nothing wrong with finding more information or asking more questions before taking action. Don’t just act for the sake of acting.
Pair Two - Two of Wands & Knight of Wands
The Two of Wands comes during a time of growth. We’ve gotten that initial spark and are now ready to go out into the world. This is a time to consider your goals – what do you wish to do, create or accomplish? Consider the possibilities that are available to you – which will you choose?
Take time this month to make a plan. Having this roadmap will help you bring your ideas into fruition. It’s important to realize you have options, so as you move forward, don’t be afraid to make changes. Rely on your inner courage to help get you where you want to go.
This message is further enforced by the Knight of Wands. He is bold, he is impulsive, and he takes action. The Two of Wands asks us to plan before acting, but the Knight of Wands wants to take on the world.
When your plan is set, tap into that passion and energy to go forward. Don’t be afraid to take a risk or follow your whims. You have things under control, and it’s time for an adventure! It’s this joie de vivre that will keep you motivated and excited – you never know what new opportunities will arise from it.
The Halloween Oracle shows the Zombie as your card – control. This month, pay attention to your relationship with control. If you feel you need to control all situations, lean into the Knight of Wands to let loose, and take things as they come. If you’re more of a fly by the seat of your pants type, maybe it’s time to absorb some of that Two of Wands energy and do a little more planning and reassert your focus. Whatever way you find yourself leaning, make sure your relationship with control isn’t preventing you from living authentically.
Pair Three - Six of Pentacles & World Rx
With the Six of Pentacles we get generosity, support, and community. It asks us to find the balance between giving and receiving, encouraging us to help others when we can, but ask for help when needed. How can you give back this month? Do you have time, money or expertise to share?
The Six of Pentacles is a reminder that life is filled with give and take relationships, both with others but also with ourselves.
With the World reversed, there may be a sense of stagnation this month. Things aren’t moving along as quickly as you had hoped and you may find yourself in the midst of unexpected setbacks.
You may feel like you’re back to the beginning of where you started. If this happens, don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. There are people out there who are ready and willing to help support you – don’t turn them down out of arrogance or pride. In the same vein, don’t feel that you need to help someone who is no longer a positive influence on your life. The World reversed can represent a lack of closure, meaning that you may find wounds from the past creeping back in. Being generous and kind does not mean being walked on.
The Black Cat from the Halloween Oracle represents fortune meeting opportunity. This shows that even despite setbacks, you will find good luck this month. Keep your eyes open for new opportunities. – remember, fortune favours the bold.
