Stop and Start: May

I think we’ve all learned now that even in the face of a pandemic, life continues on. It’s maybe not in the same way we’re used to, but nevertheless, it goes. No matter your situation, I hope you’re doing well, and getting through the adjustments.

For this month’s reading, we’re looking at what we need to stop doing, and what we need to start doing. It’s important to keep going, and maintain a sense of stability. Hopefully the messages here will help in doing just that!

When you’ve chosen a pair, continue on to your message. (Note that I is on the left, and III is on the right).

Pair I – Queen of Swords and Ace of Swords

Stop: Queen of Swords, Start: Ace of SwordsStop: Queen of Swords
The Queen of Swords while admirable in her intellect, communication skills, and judgement, can be too strict and come across as cold-hearted. She is generally independent, and knows what she wants.

This month, stop fighting so hard for control. Realize that there are people and situations that are beyond your influence or that don’t need so much of your influence right now. Listen to others, instead of silencing them. Embrace the direct approach the Queen of Swords has, but be sure to temper it with a little heart.

Use your words wisely. Stop repressing your feelings; be expressive, and be honest with yourself and those you love. Act with independence, but not so much so that you push others away. Seek truth, but stop short at accusations. Be realistic, but let your fun side shine, too.

Start: Ace of Swords
Possibilities and potential – the Aces are always my favourite of the suits because I love starting something new! The Ace of Swords encourages you to expand – expand your mind, gain mental clarity on situations that puzzle you, search for answers, and share what you know.

This is a great month to start a new project, and it’s all about getting those thoughts of yours out into the world. Communicate your ideas, and do so in a clear, concise manner.

The Ace of Swords also asks us to seek out the truth – which pairs nicely with the Queen. Whether these truths are internal or external is up to you, but remember to be careful what you do with new information. Think and act intelligently – not with haste or judgement.

Pair II – King of Pentacles & The Magician

Stop: King of Pentacles, Start: The Magician

Stop: King of Pentacles
The King of Pentacles is successful, and grounded. He works hard, and is a loyal, stable person. Despite these great traits, he can extremely stubborn.. His words come across with too much practicality, and when unbalanced, can become obsessed with material matters and status.

This month, the King of Pentacles asks you to stop being stubborn. Planting your foot so firmly in the ground is not going to make anything easier. Stick to your principles and be true to yourself, but know when to concede. Nothing is wrong with being practical, but in current times, it’s important to bend a little.

It’s important to be conscious about money and how much you’re spending, but don’t get so wrapped up in it that you can’t see anything else. If you’re getting caught up in social media and how many followers you have or likes you’ve accumulated, take a break.

Start: The Magician
What a wonderfully exciting card! The Magician opens the doors to so many opportunities. He knows and uses his own power, is resourceful and can manifest his dreams into realities.

This month is the perfect time to really get going on that project or with that idea that has been simmering on the back burner. You have the tools you need for success, but it’s time to put your mind to it and get into gear!

Embody the willpower of the Magician to propel yourself forward. Know that nothing will be achieved if you just sit back and let time pass by. Be clear in what you want to achieve, map out your goals, and turn those dreams – no matter how big or how small – into a reality.

Pair III – Seven of Swords and Three of Swords

Stop: Seven of Swords, Start: Three of Swords

Stop: Seven of Swords
Our third pair is a heavy one! First up, we have the Seven of Swords, which we can see cloaked and masked, hiding in darkness as they pick up swords that do not belong to them. They are sneaky, and strategic – generally looking out for number one.

The Seven of Swords asks us to stop being deceitful: no more lying, and no more secrets. You may think you’re being honest, but look deep down – this deceit could easily be to yourself. That negative self-talk has to stop. Remember that you are adaptable and resourceful.

This card also asks us to stop taking unnecessary risks. With some of the restrictions being lifted, it’s important that you still wash your hands, social distance, and do your part to keep the virus at bay.

Start: Three of Swords
The Three of Swords always feels so severe, with the swords plunged straight through the fallen deer. It speaks of hurt and pain, perhaps even betrayal. On the deer’s antler’s we see a butterfly – a sign of hope that there is more to this life than hurt.

Take this month to heal. You’ve been through a lot, there have been ups and downs, and sometimes it feels like the darkness will never lift. It’s time to start letting all of that go. Work on your mental health, and getting into a better place. It’s not a quick, easy journey. Wounds don’t generally heal over night.

Remember that your actions have consequences. Heal in a productive, not a destructive way. Give yourself closure, and forgive where you need. Take this as a sign to start moving forward. You deserve to feel good again.
